Australia-PINS-blog

Are you planning a trip to South Australia and/or Tasmania? Then you know how overwhelming the preparation can be. Where do you start? What should you really not miss? And how do you make sure you create a route that fits your time and interests?

We made a dream trip ourselves of 6 weeks: 2 weeks on Tasmania and 4 weeks through South Australia. That took weeks of preparation, because we really wanted to get the maximum out of our trip. And good news: that complete preparation, including more than 300 highlights in Google Maps, we love to share with you.

  • You no longer have to Google endlessly. You can navigate directly there with your (rental) car or camper!
  • You save hours (actually days!) of preparation.

For a modest amount of €2.95 you can purchase this map. This way you also support this blog and help us keep writing.

Our route: 6 weeks Australia & Tasmania

Where do you find general information about in the Google Maps PINs of South Australia and Tasmania?

2 weeks Tasmania

Tasmania feels like a world of its own: raw, green and surprisingly quiet. We did among others:

  • Hobart & Mount Wellington – starting point of our trip, with 4 seasons in one day.
  • Port Arthur & Tasman National Park – impressive combination of history and nature.
  • Mount Field National Park – waterfalls, giant trees and alpine landscapes.
  • Freycinet National Park & Wineglass Bay – the iconic bay of Tasmania, with beautiful hikes and cruises.
  • Bay of Fires & the east coast – snow-white beaches and bright orange rocks.
  • Cradle Mountain – perhaps the most beautiful national park on the island, ideal for hiking.
  • Ben Lomond & Jacob’s Ladder – a spectacular mountain pass and mountain landscape you won’t forget anytime soon.

4 weeks South Australia

After that we flew to the mainland for a road trip from Adelaide to Sydney via the south coast. Our route:

  • Adelaide & Barossa Valley – starting point with a mix of city and vineyards.
  • Kangaroo Island – spotting wildlife: koalas, kangaroos, sea lions and bizarre rock formations.
  • Grampians National Park – cliffs, viewpoints and tons of kangaroos.
  • Great Ocean Road – Australia’s most famous coastal route with the Twelve Apostles.
  • Melbourne – biking through the city, drinking coffee and spotting street art.
  • Mount Kosciuszko – hiking at Australia’s highest mountain.
  • Blue Mountains & Sydney – ending with impressive nature AND world city.
