In this blog about unique stays in Oman I’ll take you through 5 unique hotels in Oman! We’ve put together a list of 5 unique overnight stays in the Sultanate of Oman. Besides the breathtaking landscapes, the rich culture, and the warm hospitality of this beautiful country, it’s of course also fantastic to stay in the most special places, right? Oman doesn’t have a huge number of hotels, so choosing the right one can be tricky. I experienced this myself during my road trip through Oman.
Muscat, Oman’s vibrant capital, is a destination every traveler must experience. With its historical charm and modern allure, Muscat offers a perfect mix of traditional and contemporary attractions. Explore the old city district of Muttrah, where you can get lost in the narrow streets full of colorful markets and authentic craft shops. Visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an architectural masterpiece that represents impressive craftsmanship.
If you’re looking for a luxury stay on the coast, Oman won’t disappoint you. The beautiful beach resorts offer an oasis of peace and comfort, surrounded by the azure waters of the Arabian Sea. Enjoy the refined gastronomy, relax on the private beach, or treat yourself to a refreshing spa treatment. Oman is known for its luxury accommodations, where hospitality and elegance come together. Oman is investing heavily in the tourism sector and you can benefit from that!

1. Six Senses Zighy Bay

Musandam – a wild enclave at the tip of the UAE that officially belongs to Oman – is one of the most spectacular places in the region. The majestic fjords and rugged mountain ranges make it a hotspot for adventurous travelers, but the area is also home to one of Oman’s most unique (and luxurious) hotels. Descending the winding mountain road to Zighy Bay, a remote bay wedged between the mountain and the raging sea in Musandam, is simply breathtaking. The 82 stone villas, with their dusty walls and flickering lights, are nestled among pomegranate trees and date palms, and all have their own sand garden and azure plunge pool.
2. Desert Night Camps

For those looking for a unique overnight stay in the desert, Oman offers various options that meet all your expectations. From luxury tent camps to authentic desert lodges, you can enjoy all the comfort while being surrounded by the enchanting beauty of the desert. Wake up to a breathtaking view, listen to the silence of the desert, and experience the magic of this extraordinary destination.
Desert Night Camps, two hours’ drive from Muscat, is located in a wadi with rugged mountain peaks in the distance. The camp itself is spread over 4 hectares of peaceful, isolated sand and houses 55 luxury Bedouin tents with air conditioning, including six one-bedroom private pool villas for those who want to take it up a notch. Guests spend their nights around a flickering campfire, relaxing in Omani-style majlis, and exploring the surrounding desert on walks and 4×4 rides. See: https://www.omanhotels.com/desertnightscamp/
Prefer a hotel? Then Desert Night Resort might be an option for you.
3. Suwgra / The Cliff Guest House

Oman is blessed with majestic mountains that form a playground for adventurers and nature lovers. Whether you enjoy hiking, climbing, or simply enjoying a spectacular view, Oman’s mountains offer it all. Explore Jebel Shams, also known as the “Mountain of the Sun,” and be amazed by the deep canyons and breathtaking panoramas. Let yourself be surprised by the beauty of Jabal Akhdar, also called the “Green Mountain,” with its terraced fields and fruit orchards.
The Suwgra (also known as The Cliff Guest House) is a gem of a retreat and offers the authentic Omani mountain experience for a fraction of the cost of its luxury counterparts (of course without all the frills). This charming and first-class guesthouse is located in the Hajar Mountains near the historic village of Al-Sugra – a half-ruined village of yesteryear. The guesthouse itself is over 500 years old but has been tastefully renovated and modernized to attract international travelers. The rooms and suites cascade down the mountainside like a waterfall, connected by steep, narrow paths. Each room has a balcony with panoramic views.
4. Alila Jabal Akhdar

Another dreamy, unique escape in Oman’s Al Hajar mountains is Alila Jabal Akhdar, located 2000 meters above sea level and only accessible via 4×4 drives. Built on the edge of a steep abyss, the luxurious hotel blends into the horizon – all stone gray and sand brown with a strange sheen from floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Each of the 78 suites offers views of the spectacular mountain range and the interior is inspired by Omani village life with traditional Bahla pottery, juniper motifs, and Omani chests. There’s a spa focusing on ancient Asian healing practices and an infinity pool overlooking the mountain gorge – shrouded in pink from blooming damask roses from March to May. If you look closely, you might see the sheep, goats, and donkeys wandering the mountainside.
5. Dunes by Al Nahda

Dunes by Al Nahda is a luxury desert resort with tents in the Sultanate’s South Batinah region, the closest desert resort to the capital just 50 minutes southwest of Muscat. The unique experience begins upon arrival, where guests are treated to a welcome ceremony where staff don local attire and beat Omani drums before being whisked away to their tent accommodation – the latter filled with traditional accents like hanging lanterns, deep armchairs, writing desks, and teak furniture. You can book desert activities like dune bashing and camel safaris, or use the small gym, pool, and Uru Spa (with treatments including being partially buried in sun-baked sand). One restaurant serves a mix of dishes, an Arabic breakfast, and regularly organizes barbecue evenings in the sand. See: https://www.dunesbyalnahda.com
